How to do the Ancient Step in Irish Step Dance
To do the Ancient Step you should wear ballet shoes, or gillies, but socks can work too. 1: The most important part in this step is to stretch first. If you don’t it can result in a broken ankle.Put one of your feet in front of you, and the other foot in back of you. Slightly bend your front leg. Keep your back leg straight. Now lean forwards a tiny bit. You should put all your weight on your front leg. After about twenty-five seconds switch your feet.
2: Now that you are stretched we can start on the step. To begin you have to stand in fifth position.
3: Count this, five, six, seven, eight. On seven point your right foot forwards.
4: With your right foot tap your knee three times while hopping with every tap. If that was too confusing, then here is a different way of explaining it. When you are in the air tap your left knee with your right foot.
5: Then, point your right foot out in front of you, and use your other foot to gently kick your “bottom” at the same time. If you already are an Irish dancer then this would be called a birdie.
