Knit a Bookmark for Right Handed Knitters

Today,  I am going to teach you how to knit . If you are left handed you might have trouble doing this but please try. I did not show making the entire bookmark, I was just making a smaller piece. I am making a skinny shorter bookmark. You can make a wider or longer bookmark by doing more.

First, you are going to gather your supplies. You will need two (2) knitting needles, a special yarn needle, (the yarn needle has a wider eye for the yarn to go through.) yarn, and scissors. These are your supplies.

You will need to cast on. This means that you will wrap the yarn around your finger about four (4) inches from the end.

Next, we will take it of the finger you have it on and pull the loose yarn through the hole.

Your next step is to hold your two knitting needles like an x with the left needle over the right needle

Then you put the loop you have around the left needle.

Stick your right needle under the yarn on the front of the loop.

Then pull the yarn connected to the ball and put it in between the crossed needles.

See how it sort of makes a hole? Put your left needle through that hole and pick up the loop with the right needle.

Pull the loop you have on the left needle and put it over the left needle.

NOTICE: YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE NEEDLES EVERY TIME YOU FINISH A ROW!!!!!!!!!!
Repeat until you have at least four loops on the right needle.

Then you do basically the same steps except for the loop step. You keep it on the needle you just picked it up on and repeat the steps.

For casting off you start when you have the bookmark at the desired length and the other needle is clear.
You knit two stitches and then pull the stitch that is closer to the bottom over the top of the needle.

ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ONLY TWO STITCHES ON THE NEEDLE AT A TIME!!!

When you have only one stitch left, take it off the needle, cut the yarn about six inches from the needle and pull the yarn that you have just cut through the middle of the loop. Pull it tight.

Now you will need to use your needle. You should have two straw pieces of yarn  hanging out.

Thread your needle and keep about one inch on the side of the needle. DO NOT KNOT THE THREAD INTO THE NEEDLE!!!!!!!

Sew it into the bookmark with both threads.

Your bookmark should look similar to the picture below. If you want a wider or longer bookmark than do more knitting steps.
