This is a tutorial for the game Don’t Starve, it costs $15 and is basically a game about surviving. The controls are W ( to move forward), A ( to move left), D ( to move right) and, S ( to move backwards) and you also use your mouse, these are normal game controls for most games.
First, start your first save, this will put you in the game and a person named Maxwell will say “you don’t look so good, you should find something to eat before night comes” or something along the lines of that. And remember, you DO NOT respawn after death, unless you have a meat effigy or a touchstone, but you shouldn't have either of those yet. Don’t worry if you die a few times, because this is a hard game at the start.
PART 1
The first 1-10 days should consist of scavenging for resources to make a base (pay attention
to the little clock at the top of your screen, because if you are caught without a campfire at night the grue (AKA charlie) will kill you) get ready for your first night by collecting flint and sticks.
then craft an axe,
then you need to use the axe to get wood (equip the axe and hold left mouse button on the tree)
then you need grass to make a campfire
Do this as soon as possible!
PART 2:
MAKING A BASE
At about day 15-20,
You will need to make a base and start stockpiling food for winter, it will be coming soon. So first you need a fire pit, it will save you lots of time because it stays forever unless you destroy it with a hammer.
So, first you will need a pickaxe, you need 2 flint and 2 sticks to craft, (you should already know how to do this) and craft the pickaxe!
and with that pickaxe you will need 12 stone and 2 wood
(the stone is why you crafted the pickaxe)
click on the stone and your character (or wilson if this is your first run!)
should mine the stone
(stone can be hard to find)
and get more wood to make a fire pit
make sure you place it where you want it because you can’t move it later!
Also, make sure you can deal with hounds as they get harder and harder to beat depending on how long you've lived, they come every 7-10 days and the you should be able to beat the first wave with an axe now, but you will need better traps and weapons to fend them off later . You need to make science machines and other utilities for your soon-to-be-base. Find a gold stone,
this is your first step in making a science machine, and later the alchemy engine
after you mine the gold rock, you will need to get basic materials to craft a science machine
then you can craft more advanced tools, such as a shovel (for digging up stumps and acquiring gravedigger items) and a spear, (a basic weapon for fighting off enemies).
To make a shovel, it takes basic materials (flint, sticks) or if you are lucky, you can find them randomly on the ground (same goes with pickaxes, axes ,and rarely spears in the box thing setpeice ). To make a spear, you need flint, sticks, and rope. Rope can be made with 3 grass.
PART 3
SURVIVING WINTER
Then you should make an ice box so you can keep your food safe for winter, which will be coming soon, winter will start on day 21 and is way harder to survive in, making an icebox will not be easy because you need gears. To get gears, you need to find a clockwork area and fight the clockwork chess pieces, they will drop them, but the real difficulty is finding the clockwork areas.
Now you should make a winterometer and when you do, the temperature should already be dropping, you NEED to stockpile food or you WILL die in the winter! Also, one of the best sources of food for winter are rabbits. At this point in the game, they don't freeze or stop dropping seeds like birds, and also, rabbit earmuffs (other winter items later in the game) and a heat stone are VERY USEFUL in winter, as you will get hungry faster and be able to freeze to death.
If you made a farm earlier it will freeze over and you won't be able to grow on them
when the ground has a blueish tint it has become winter, meaning the ponds can't produce fish, farms have stopped working, and birds have stopped dropping seeds, right now you should have lots of wood (for fueling the fire, which will warm your character (if ice starts outlining your screen and you start to lose health, you are freezing, which can only be stopped by standing next to a fire). If you hear a low moaning sound on your first winter, CONGRATULATIONS,YOU ARE THE MOST UNLUCKY PERSON IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD. Deerclops is coming!!!!
If you do happen to get a deerclops spawn on your first winter, kiting is the key to winning,(every mob in don't starve has to charge their attacks, some even kite you! it is hard to kite deerclops because of his HUGE attack range, but it is possible to kite deerclops by running in and hitting him with your spear ONCE, and running away before he can hit you, repeat this process after he attacks. It is a slow fight, but one of the safest ways to do it. My rule for winter is DO NOT EAT ANYTHING UNTIL YOU ARE VERY CLOSE TO STARVING, you do not have to follow this rule, if you prefer keeping your hunger bar up. Winter is not a very adventurous season, and turtling by the fire is the best option (turtling means staying at base for extended periods of time) after you have turtled winter out, and possibly gotten some armor.
Now it is probably time to go to the caves
After it generates the cave
there's really not much there at all,
so just go out of the cave.
It should be summer by now, so you can repeat the process of getting food for winter and waiting for the new downloadable content : reign of giants to come out!!!
The End
